Zone users: Pro Bowl has lost most luster

In the week leading up to the 1997 NBA All-Star Game, five of the league's top stars -- Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler and Patrick Ewing -- announced that they would be unable to play in the game. Whether they dropped out because of legitimate injuries or garden-variety apathy, it means the game won't necessarily feature the best players in the league this year. For that reason, perhaps it should call it the Some-Stars Game.

But this type of development isn't exclusive to the NBA. The NFL's Pro Bowl on Sunday featured its usual share of replacements for players who were selected but opted out of participating in the game.

Of the all-star games in the four major sports, Zone users were asked, which one has lost the most luster in recent years to you as a spectator? Below are results, published Feb. 7, of the two-day poll:

      59 % NFL

      20 % NBA

      14 % Major League Baseball

      6 % NHL

      Total votes: 7,042
